Hello Everyone!

Welcome to the Deforestation Blog.

This post is about where Deforestation occurs:

The world’s highest rates of deforestation, a significant cause of global warming, are happening in the key emerging economies of Nigeria, Indonesia, and Brazil, according to new research evaluating the state of the world’s forests.
The Deforestation Index, released by risk analysis and mapping company Maplecroft, states that economic growth, poverty, corruption and the rise of biofuels are among the major causes of deforestation in nine countries which have been classified as ‘extreme risk.’ These include Nigeria, Indonesia and Brazil, as well as Bolivia, Cambodia, DR Congo, Nicaragua, North Korea and Papua New Guinea.
An estimated 13 million hectares of forests were lost each year between 2000 and 2010 due to deforestation.* In tropical rainforests particularly, deforestation continues to be an urgent environmental issue that jeopardizes people’s livelihoods, threatens species, and intensifies global warming. Forests make a vital contribution to humanity, but their full potential will only be realized if we halt deforestation and forest degradation.

Solutions of Deforestation ~ The Deforestation Blog

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back to The Deforestation Blog!

This post is about Solutions to Deforestation:

1.Raising and donating money
You can raise money in lot of different ways from bake sales to sponsored walks and runs you can also get your whole school involved by asking your head teacher if the whole school could go on a sponsored walk. After you have raised the desired amount get your parents to send a cheque to the deforestation group of your choice green peace is a good one.

2. Clear cutting
This solution is more for the people that have more funds and are really determined. Clear cutting is a promise that big companies promise to their sellers like andrex. They usually say that for every one tree that they cut down they plant another three. Andrex does this and if more companies did this it would reduce deforestation by a lot. The goal of the people who are willing to do this solution is to get in contact with companies that use a lot of trees and convince them to do this.

3.Buying recycled products
Buying recycled product is good so that that means that companies who have made the products have had to cut down any plants to make the product also if you could help recycle it help companies to make more recycled products.

Pros and Cons of Deforestation ~ The Deforestation Blog

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back to the deforestation blog!

This post is about the pros and cons of Deforestation:

Pros of Deforestation:
1. It creates more usable space for growth.
One of the main reasons that these forests are being cut down is to make room for expansion. With all of the free areas that are being created from deforestation. With 10 billion people expected to be on the planet by 2050 we eventually will run out of space on the Earth. When there are forests on lands that could be utilized for habitation, by removing them we can create more livable space.
2. It produces more usable material.
All of the trees are being cut down to be used for producing lumber and other types of wood product. The plants can be used to make good paper and many other necessities. Considering the products of deforestation, it can certainly provide an economic benefit, both regional and local in many instances. Timber and paper are created for the whole world to enjoy, and some of the toilet paper, which is used in most households, comes at least in some part from deforestation, unless it was created from purely recyclable items.
3. It creates more job openings.
Mostly, the people who are working in a forest clearing have no other job opportunities available to them, which means deforestation is providing workers with the financial resources they need to take care of their families on a regular basis. When a certain forested area is cleared, workers can then settle down and establish a farm, plantation or an industry sector.
4. It allows for the opportunity to graze animals.
Animal grazing is one good way to make deforestation highly useful. With this method, it will be easier for people to find possibly unknown animals that are hiding within the virgin forests or even rediscover those that are declared extinct.
5. It gives us the chance to produce more food.
Developments in crop technologies have resulted in huge volumes of farming yields over the last 2 decades, but it is speculated that this may not be sufficient in the next 2 decades. Fortunately, deforestation can provide enough space to produce enough food for more than 10 billion people who will be hungry in the future.
Cons of Deforestation:
1. It increases carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
Plants and trees play a vital role in keeping the planet habitable. As most of us probably know, photosynthesis (a process that happens in plants) filters carbon dioxide gases out of the air and releases oxygen. This means that cutting huge numbers of plants can have a very negative impact on the environment. It will allow green house gases to build up and contributing to global warming.
2. It is a limited resource.
We can get from deforestation at first, these timber profits could go away since there will not be any additional trees being planted to replace those that are harvested. Livestock and farms may not be nearly as profitable as a living, considering the thriving forests on a planetary scale.
3. It contributes to the extinction of wildlife.
The removal of a habitat is often the foundation for the extinction of a species. When forests are cut down, it is not only the trees that are being lost, but also countless amounts of wildlife, such as mammals, birds, insects, amphibians and many other animals that make them their home. With nowhere else for them to go, they will be forced into areas that are not suited for them. In fact, there has been a drastic decline in the amount of wildlife in certain areas that have experienced severe effects of deforestation.
4. It causes flooding.
We all know that trees and plants play a vital role in absorbing excess ground water by sucking the extra moisture up through their roots and disperse it back into the atmosphere. So, without plants, trees and other plant life, there will be nothing to help regulate the excess water from rain, and the soil will become over saturated. This is one of the main causes of flooding not only in the deforested area, as well as its surroundings.
7. It may hinder the production of future medicines.
Only a small fraction of the forests in the world have been explored by humans (non-tribal), and many of the best medicines today have a foundation from items that were found in these rich lands. Deforestation would remove the possibility to study the biome and ruin a big part of human life.
8. It only renders a short time to lose all forests.
Given the rapid rate that forests are being cut down every day through deforestation, it is very that the Earth will lose all rain forests in as little as 100 years. And if this happens, all of the plants and animals that are native to them will be lost as well.
9. It introduces countless environmental and community harms.
The abrupt and irreversible consequences of
deforestation can put the existence of the whole world at risk.

10. It causes a following of unfavorable effects.
Deforestation can cause a domino effect on the whole planet, including global warming and extinction. One wrong move, and the process will lead us to an empty and lifeless world. The death of plants and animals can lead to a partial loss of human life.

Why Is Deforestation Occuring ~ The Deforestation Blog

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back to The Deforestation Blog!

This post is about why Deforestation is occurring:

There are many causes of deforestation. The WWF reports that half of the trees illegally removed from forests are used as fuel.

Some other common reasons are:
  • To make more land available for housing and urbanisation.
  • To harvest timber to create commercial items such as paper, furniture and homes
  • To create ingredients that are highly priced consumer items, such as the oil from palm trees.
  • To create room for cattle ranching.
Common methods of deforestation are burning trees and clear cutting. These methods leave the land completely bare and cause controversy. However, some legal clear cutting services clear cut for companies such as oil companies or toilet tissue companies such as Andrex replant the trees they cut down.
However some illegal organisations burn down the forest because it is much quicker and takes down a larger area of forest.

Introduction ~ The Deforestation Blog

Hello Everyone!

Welcome to The Deforestation Blog! First we have an introduction to Deforestation!

Deforestation is a very bad problem happening world wide today. There are many different things that you can do to stop deforestation from happening. Any support, whether a lot or a little, can be a big help! A little goes along way and if we all help out we can all make a big difference.

Online meaning:
Deforestation is the permanent destruction of forests in order to make the land available for other uses.
Deforestation can be carried out by logging, mining, oil and gas extraction (drilling) and agricultural uses such as growing crops and making space for cattle and other animals.

However, there are many solutions as we will explain further on in the blog.
